Wheatland Conference Center

Mission Construction Short Course

Announcing the launching of a pilot Mission Construction Short Course for mature high school students entering the 11th, and 12th grades, and recent high School graduates. The dates are Sunday through Thursday June 22-26, 2025.  The short course is a venture of Wheatland Ministries with underwriting by the Colorado Plains Roundup, SBC.   Our plan is to enlist a select group of 8 students (boys and/or girls) in this initial pilot.  The mission education and mission action week will involve constructing an 8 X 10 portable storage building as a central project during the morning hours and afternoon. Late afternoon will be devoted to recreation.  Each evening will have a worship experience. Three meals and nutritional breaks will be served each day.

Goals

1.  Leaders of the construction project will be interacting with the students to show them some entry-level construction skills for personal use, but especially for participation in potential future mission trip projects with their churches or Association.

2.  To informally impart Biblical-based mission action philosophies during the hands-on project.

3.  Cast vision in these students to be on-mission Christians.

4.  Cast vision of a model of missions as a practical experience.

5.  Creative interaction with the leadership team of on-mission adults (construction team leaders, male and female sponsors, music worship leaders, pastor worship leaders, and food and hospitality leaders as role models through instruction, conversations, recreation, worship and an evening "hanging out."

Here is how it will work:

Student participants will come from recommendation of their parents and local church Pastor or church leaders by January 28, 2025

                          Letter to Pastors/Church Leaders

Prospective students will receive an application form to be returned to Project Director, Daniel Walker for review by Mission Construction Short Course Leadership Team.

Notice of acceptance will be sent to the student, and copied to local church leadership.

Registration cost must be returned to reserve a spot

Cost will be $500.00 per person (student and sponsor) to assist in covering lodging, meals, building materials, and related program leadership expenses.  A partial to full scholarship may be available to qualified individuals.

Students will need to arrive at 4:00 pm Sunday, June 22 for lodging assignments, orientation, and worship.

The Short Course will close at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 26.
